Mario Testino 21.09.10 - 09.01.11

During my short visit in Madrid I've been able to go today to see Mario Testinos exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum! It was amazing! I loved it! I'd say that his work is mainly a mixture between two opposing directions: fashion and nude.

I STRONGLY recommend seeing it if you happen to be in Madrid!




Durante mi pequeña visita a Madrid he podido pasarme por la exibicion de Mario Testino en el Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza! Me ha parecido una pasada! Me ha encantado! Yo diría que su trabajo esta principalmente ilustrando dos lineas: la moda y el desnudo.

Recomiendo a todo aquel que se encuentre en Madrid en estas fechas que no se lo pierda!

Irving Penn

Irving Penn was an American photographer known for his portraiture and fashion photography.

Irving Penn fue un fotógrafo de retratos y moda estadounidense.

He studied under Alexey Brodovitch at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art (now the University of the Arts) from which he was graduated in 1938.

Penn's drawings were published by Harper's Bazzar, he also painted. As his career in photography blossomed, he became known for post World War II feminine chic and glamour photography.

Estudio diseño en la escuela de artes del museo de Filadelfia, bajo el las directrices de Alexey Brodovitch.

Se graduo en 1938.

Sus dibujos fueron publicados en la revista Harpers Bazzar. Su carrera empezó a ser reconocida cuando

durante la segunda Guerra Mundial, se convirtio en el fotógrafo chic y glamuroso por excelencia.

Penn worked for many years doing fashion photography for Vogue Magazine, founding his own studio in 1953.

He was among the first photographers to pose subjects against a simple grey or white backdrop and used this simplicity more effectively than other photographers.

Expanding his austere studio surroundings, Penn constructed a set of upright angled backdrops, to form a stark, acute corner. Subjects photographed with this technique included Martha Graham, Marcel Duchamp, Pablo Picasso, Georgia O'Keeffe, W. H Auden, Igor Stravinsky and Marlene Dietrich.

Penn trabajó durante muchos años como fotógrafo de moda para la revista Vogue. Fundó su primer estudio es 1953.

Él, fue de entre los primeros fotógrafos en colocar objetos contra fondos simples, en tonos grises y blancos. Proponiendo la simplicidad como la clave de sus creaciones.

Amplió su estudio, y con la ayuda de telares construyó un fondo con angulo recto, creando una esquina aguda. Con esta técnica, fotografio a personajes de la talla de Martha Graham, Marcel Duchamp, Pablo Picasso, Georgia O'Keeffe, W. H Auden, Igor Stravinsky and Marlene Dietrich.
